Adopt A Shark

Hello all you Shark fans out there! As we embark on our 10th season of tackle football, the Sharks continue to assemble one of the best women's football teams in the country. Every season, each player is responsible for raising approximately $1,500 toward the estimated $100,000 that is necessary to fund our entire season. The most costly expenses include field rental, home gameday expenses and travel to away games.

By participating in this program, you can help one of the players shown below to meet the financial goal necessary to participate on the team. This allows our fans to support a Shark player in a unique and personal way. You would also help to ensure many more years of great women's football in the New York area!

Read their stories, choose your favorite Shark and send her your contribution. In return, we will send you a special "thank you" gift.

We appreciate your continued support of our organization and it's players!

Please make checks payable to: New York Sharks and mail to 92 Bank Street, New York, New York 10014 or go to our on-line store and donate on-line using a credit card.

Melissa Pickett
Hello All!

My name is Melissa Pickett and I'm a rookie on the Sharks' 2008 roster! Boy, being able to say that feels great!

I hail from Jersey City, NJ and, like many of my teammates, grew up playing football with the boys in the parking lot down the block using the parking lines painted on the concrete as yard lines. I came home at sunset every hot summer night with scrapped kneesb&..and LOVED it. Those days spent with my neighborhood friends were by far some of the best I have ever had. Soon enough high school rolled around and the only way I could come close to capturing the same feeling of real teamwork and pure victory was to become a year around high school athlete: a member of two recreation softball teams and a four year member of the varsity track and field team. Football was never an option at an all girls Catholic high school but those years were the sweetest because they allowed me to grow as a more well-rounded athlete. As an undergrad at Rider University 2000 to 2004 was completely dedicated to living all that is the "college experience" - also an incredible time but, for whatever reason, did not include footballb& or even keeping remotely physically active. In fact, my cleats collected dust in the back of my closet my entire time away from home. Where did the athlete in me go?

I'm not completely sure but THIS year...in THIS moment... I am willing to find out! I am looking to the 'winningest' and longest operating women's professional tackle football team in America to put me to the test! Can the athlete that once thrived in me be resurrected?

If you would like to sponsor me in my efforts to seize this tremendous opportunity I want to take this moment to thank you in advance for any contribution you might make now or in the future whether it be a monetary contribution, emotional support from a distance or your physical presence at a game. I genuinely appreciate ANY interest you have in my success and the success of this team and that appreciation is not at all restricted to cash contributors. Interest from supporters like yourself continues to overwhelm me and as a very humbling "thank you" I have committed to strive to shine on any football field - ESPECIALLY for all of you that have made any personal investments in me. Your contribution, in whatever form it may take, will not go unnoticed or be foolishly wasted. I am pretty certain that words cannot fully reflect my appreciation but nevertheless - THANK YOU.

With gratitude,

Melissa Pickett

A blessing from my mother and father.... I'm a joker, love to have fun with friends and unwind. I played basketball at the University of Hartford in Connecticut and still continue to play and coach now . Although I've played basketball my entire life, I've always enjoyed watching football. Now that I have been given the chance to play I'm ecstatic.

In College I studied at the Hartt School of music. I have a degree in Music management and currently stay active within local venues. I like going to concerts, making music and traveling. I love music, as most do, but my love is truly on another level. I love being out doors and being active, but at the same time I enjoy movies at home. I like to work out to take away stress, which there always is some, in some way shape or form... Becoming a part of the NY Sharks has definitely been blessing. But at the same time, as a first time football player, I need to make sure that I have all the equipment that I need as well as player fees. I would appricated any help you can give me during my first year with the NY Sharks. We plan on do big things this year and it would be a great exprience to share with you. I am excited about this opportunity and would love to see you at our games.

Quotes I enjoy :Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved. -- "Be more concerned with your character than with your reputation. Your character is what you really are while your reputation is merely what others think you are." ----John Wooden

Thanks,

Wanted:
A Mommy and Daddy that will adopt me as their precious little Sharkie.

Perks:
Your darling precious rookie is not only a force to contend with on the field but also an undeniable MVP off the field. I am a graduate student on an academic scholarship at Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs and a Serrano Scholar (Google me, I'll make you proud!). You will also be the proud parent of a Sharkie who performs volunteer work abroad and mentors young students at home. So, when I lay the smackdown that will make some poor sap assume a fetal position and suck her thumb in the middle of the 45 yard line, you can proudly look from the stands with tears in your eyes and scream, "That's MY baby!"

Lissette Lombana
Wanted:
Hi, my name is Lissette Lombana also known as “Pokee” #83. I am a Rookie Shark for the 2008 season. I would like to request your assistance in helping me reach my fundraising goal. I have been blessed in my life in so many ways that each day I can step on the field and play, is just like a little piece of heaven on earth. I have competed in various sports but football has been the most physically grueling hands down. It’s great…I just can’t seem to get enough of it! I grew up in Teaneck, NJ where I was a three sport athlete and played softball for both Penn State University and Rutgers University. You might have seen me playing third base, pitching on a baseball diamond or digging a volleyball.

I am a Substance Awareness Coordinator for the West New York School district, coach volleyball and basketball at Bergen Community College and am an instructor at MVP Triple Sports Academy.

If you are interested in adopting someone that is willing to give it her all on and off the field as well as remember that she is a role model for those that may follow, then you and I would make a great team. I appreciate your time and thank you for your interest, your support and I hope to see you at one or all of our games.
